Anthony Pante

3/16/2017

Anthony R. Pante, 79 of Towaco, NJ, died Thursday, March 16, 2017. He had lived in Wayne for fifteen years before moving to Towaco in 1995.

Tony enjoyed an illustrious career with State Farm Insurance Co. that lasted more than fifty years. He started with the company after college where he trained at the Pennsylvania Regional Office and then was transferred to the new Wayne Regional Office and began is journey when the new corporate offices opened on Rt. 23. He later had his own State Farm agency in the Packanack Shopping Center on Rt. 23.

Tony met his wife Marie (nee DeCaro) in 1978 at that very same State Farm office which later became his own. They married on July 4, 1981. They settled in Wayne to raise their family. Tony was a devoted father who made it to every activity the kids were involved in. He was a big sports fan and enjoyed endless seasons tailgating at GIANTS games for many years. It was a true joy for him to take his friends and family to those games. Tony and Marie cherished their time together at their home in Manchester Vermont. Tony was always such a generous and sentimental man. At Christmas time, he loved to put on his Santa hat and have every grandchild sit on his lap for a photo with Pop-Pop Tony. Tony and Marie had many wonderful vacations, including several memorable trips to Italy and too many of the magnificent beaches that the Caribbean had to offer. They were truly blessed to have enjoyed thirty six years of loving marriage together, and Marie will miss him dearly.

Tony’s grandchildren were so very precious to him. He made a point of going to as many of their special events as he could, and he also spoiled them with loving gifts. They will all miss him dearly, but his love will always be evident whenever they think of him.

Tony is survived by his devoted wife Marie of Towaco, NJ, by his four children; Christine Scher and her husband Greg of Madison, NJ, Steven Pante and his wife Marjory of Manalapan, NJ, Rick DeLisi and his wife Daniela of Flanders, NJ, and Laura Palumbo and her husband Richard of Basking Ridge, NJ, ten wonderful grandchildren, as well as his brother; Dennis Pante and his wife Helen of Flanders, NJ.

Friends may visit with the family at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne, on Monday, March 20, 2017 from 4-8 PM.

Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at St. Mary’s RC Church, Pompton Lakes, NJ where a Funeral Mass will be offered.

In lieu of flowers donations in Tony’s memory would be appreciated to the St. Francis Breadline, 144 West 32nd St, New York, NY 10001 or visit www.stfrancisbreadline.org.

I was so saddened to see this. Tony was always supportive of me and my career as an agent and later as a manager. Many others in the farm can make the same claim. We shared a lot of laughs; he was always the life of the party. Friend, advisor, raconteur extraordinaire, and an incurable optimist, even in tough times. Tony, we will all miss you terribly. And Marie, Steve and family, our hearts go out to you.

I’m at a loss to find the right words that if there are any. However the following which I’ve kept for years may best reflect Tony. Work like you don’t need the money Love like you’ve never been hurt Dance like nobody’s watching Sing like nobody’s listening Live like it is heaven on earth Live well Laugh often Love Much Our lives are immeasurably better and funnier because Tony shared his love of life with us.

In August of 1990 my career with State Farm had begun when I was introduced to State Farm Agent Mark Smith. The man who was responsible for that introduction was the one and only Mr. Tony Pante. I thanked Tony once face to face, I always thought our paths would cross to thank him again, that never happened. So as I write this now, I say aloud, THANK YOU Tony and God Bless You. Andy C.

To those of us who joined State Farm's Northeast region, Tony was as iconic as the emblem. His leadership, generosity, quick wit and kind spirit left all who crossed his path better off for having encountered him. For those of us fortunate enough to have called him friend, he left an indelible mark on our hearts, and our lives have been forever enriched. The heavens will surely echo with new sounds of laughter. Break a leg Tony. xx Love and sympathies to all who loved him. Mary Comito

Tony was a real "stand up guy", who made everyone with whom he came in contact better for meeting and knowing him. Knowing Tony for the 50 years was a highlight of our State Farm career. He'll be missed by all. Our prayers are with his family.

The first time I met Tony Pante, I was 17 years old. He was not only a "Good Neighbor", he was my next door neighbor. Truly a people person, he was quick to make you laugh and could be counted on to do whatever you asked of him. Tony was gifted with so many special and caring qualities which we will sadly miss. Today was a very sad day for many of State Farm's old timers and anyone that knew him. He made the world a better place and we are so fortunate to have known him. John and I send our deepest condolences to Marie and his family. We pray their strength gets them through this most difficult time. Rest in Peace Jeannette and John Santello

Before I started with State Farm my mom Ella Zotta was friends with Tony and she ask him if he would come and talked about State Farm in my High School finance class and he did! It was great! When I started with the company any time I saw him he would stop and talk to me out of his busy schedule. He will be missed. My prayers are with the Pante family

Tony gave me my agency opportunity in NY and I am forever grateful to him. As Agency Manager, Tony made a great leader. Always finding ways to make others feel important and smart - he was selfless. And funny . . . he could make you laugh at simple/silly things. It was a sad day learning of his passing. Marie, to you and your beautiful family, my thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time.
