Georgette Valt, age 74, of Haledon, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 17, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.
Born and raised in Paterson, Georgette was one of five children born to the late George and Rose Casperino. She shared a particularly special bond with her two sisters, as the three were triplets. Georgette attended John F. Kennedy High School in Paterson and graduated with the Class of 1968.
Following high school, Georgette became an integral part of her family's business, working alongside her father and sisters at G & R Bakery in Paterson. She devoted many years to the family bakery, where she became known not only for her hard work but also for the warmth and kindness she extended to those around her. After the bakery closed, Georgette began a long career with Kmart in Wayne, where she worked for more than twenty-five years as manager of the Toy Department. She retired in 2019.
It was also during her years at the family bakery that Georgette's path crossed with the man who would become the love of her life. One day, a young man who was dating Georgette's sister stopped into the bakery with a friend named Charles Valt. Although Georgette and Charles only met briefly that day, fate brought them together again at a bingo night at St. Gerard's Church in Paterson. The two immediately hit it off, and their friendship soon blossomed into a loving relationship. They fell deeply in love and were married on August 31, 1985.
Georgette and Charles spent several years living in Paterson before making their home in Haledon sixteen years ago.
Those who knew Georgette will remember her for her generous heart, warm personality, and deep devotion to the people she loved. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends, creating memories around the people who meant the most to her. She was an outstanding cook, with a particular talent for preparing delicious Italian dishes.
Georgette was a devoted wife to Charles and a woman of strong Catholic faith. For many years, she was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Paterson, where she worshipped alongside her family. Her faith provided her with strength and comfort throughout her life and especially during her courageous battle with illness.
Georgette was a truly special person who touched the lives of everyone around her. She will be sincerely missed by everyone that knew her.
Georgette is survived by her husband Charles Valt of Haledon, NJ, three sisters; Lois Amadore of Totowa, NJ, Diane Polotto of Toms River, NJ, and Florence Zimbo of Paterson, NJ, her stepson Charles Valt and his wife Thea of Garrison, NY, two grandchildren, Charlie Valt and Rae Valt, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Kenneth and Laura Valt, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Rosemarie Govesach.
