Friends are invited to gather with the family on Thursday, October 1, 2026 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne, NJ.
A Funeral Service will take place on Friday, October 2, 2026 beginning at 10:30 AM at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at East Ridgelawn Cemetery.
June Urna (née Graf) age 97 died on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at Arbor Ridge Rehabilitation and Healthcare center in Wayne, NJ, surrounded by her children.
June was born and raised in Newark, NJ, the eldest of three children of Frank and Louise Graf. She began working at a young age, first as an usher at a movie theater at thirteen and then as a cashier at fifteen. She attended Newark Central High School, but some of her fondest early memories were of her dad taking the kids for country rides to Wayne on his days off.
June met Joseph Urna when they were both young, and as they grew older, they fell in love. They were married on October 29, 1949, at Emanuel Presbyterian Church in Newark before celebrating their marriage with a honeymoon at Niagara Falls. Soon after, they made their home in Wayne, the place she had loved since those childhood drives.
June was a devoted member of her community and her faith. She attended Wayne Presbyterian Church since becoming a member back in 1967. There she became a deacon and also sang in the choir. She was the oldest living member. She served as secretary for St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Wayne for 36 years. She was also part of the Wayne PAL Women’s Auxiliary.
An avid reader, June was still reading nine hardcover books a week until April of this year, with Danielle Steel and Debbie Macomber among her favorite authors. She had a special love for animals, especially dogs and cats, a love she passed down to her children. She got a kick out of her daughter Jeanne’s many foster and personal dogs over the years, and she loved having her daughter Susan’s cats warm her lap. Game Shows were her favorite, especially Family Feud and Wheel of Fortune. She also loved the Food Network and My Lottery Dream Home.
June met every stranger with a big smile. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and she will be dearly missed.
June is predeceased by her husband Joseph Urna of 58 years; her parents: Frank and Louise Graf; her brothers: Frank and Russell Graf; and her beloved dogs: Mugsy, Jeff, Tawny & Kai.
Surviving her are her children: Steven Urna of Wayne, Susan and her husband Gary Natiello of Punta Gorda, Florida, and Jeanne Urna of Lincoln Park; her three grandsons: Shawn and his husband Dusty Atha, Michael and David; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in June’s name may be made to Wayne Presbyterian Church or to help the dogs at Hounds in Pounds.
