Minnie Ming Yu, 61, of Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.
Born in Wuhan, China, Minnie was the eldest child of Xuhe Yu and the late Shunzhen Li. From an early age, she displayed remarkable determination, excelling in track & field, where her competitive spirit and discipline quickly became evident.
Early Life & Family
Following high school, Minnie attended Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, where she later served as a university instructor. It was there that she met the love of her life, Gordon. Their friendship blossomed into a lifelong romance, and they were married on December 28, 1991.
Minnie soon joined Gordon in the United States, settling first in Texas before moving to Connecticut, where they welcomed their cherished son, Dominic. Their journey together brought them to Bergenfield, New Jersey, and shortly thereafter to their first home in Westwood, where they built a lifetime of memories together. In time, they made their home in Woodcliff Lake, where they still live today.
Career & Community Impact
A lifelong believer in education, Minnie earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She worked in computer administration for several years and later earned her real estate license. In 2003, she founded MeiHua International Group Corporation, serving proudly as its owner and cultural organizer. Through her leadership, she fostered cultural understanding, celebrated Chinese heritage, and brought communities together through education, art, and exchange.
Minnie remained deeply connected to her roots, serving as Secretary General of the Huazhong University of Science and Technology Alumni Association for the NY Metropolitan area. She also founded the Fashion Model Team for the Bergen Huaxia Chinese School, organizing performances for nursing homes and audiences across the region.
Adventures, Passions & Faith
Travel was among Minnie's greatest joys. Together with Gordon and Dominic, she embraced exploring the world, including a massive cross-country drive from New Jersey all the way to Seattle. Their road trips spanned nearly every state, visiting Disney World, Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore, Chicago, Arizona, and California. Whether taking cruises to Alaska, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean, returning home to China, or traveling across Canada, India, and Europe (England, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Switzerland),
Minnie treasured every experience. At home, Minnie found happiness in gardening. She cultivated colorful flowers and thriving vegetable gardens, taking particular pride in her cherished "Purple Garden," named for her vibrant perilla leaves. Her favorite color, however, was red; she embraced it wholeheartedly, often dressing head-to-toe in bright shades that reflected her personality.
Energetic, spirited, outspoken, and wonderfully direct, Minnie loved conversation, laughter, and good food, especially seafood. Her warmth filled every room. In her later years, Minnie embraced the Christian faith, which became a profound source of comfort, strength, and peace.
Legacy & Family
Above all else, Minnie's greatest devotion was to her family. She loved fiercely and unconditionally, protecting those she cared for with every ounce of her being. Being a devoted wife and loving mother was the role she treasured most.
Minnie lived with extraordinary energy, courage, generosity, and love. Though her passing leaves an immeasurable void, her legacy lives on through the lives she touched, the traditions she preserved, the friendships she nurtured, and the family she loved beyond measure.
Minnie is survived by her loving husband, Gordon Liu of Woodcliff Lake, NJ; her son, Dominic Liu, and his wife, Sarah, of Seattle, WA; her brother, Xudong Yu, of Wuhan, China; and her father, Xuhe Yu. She was predeceased by her mother, Shunzhen Li.
She will be remembered always with love, gratitude, and admiration, and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
