Robert M. Ververs, age 90, passed away peacefully with the comfort of family on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. Bob was born to August and Marie (Bohny) Ververs on April 12, 1936 in Paterson, New Jersey. He was the youngest of four children and was predeceased by his three sisters: Dorothy Saller, Helen Rocco(Fred), and Claire Mooney (John). He was a graduate of Don Bosco Technical and Vocational High School and Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering. Bob served honorably in the United States Coast Guard from 1954 -1958 as an Electronics Technician, First Class. He was employed for over 25 years as a plant manager with the former Burroughs Corporation in Park Ridge, New Jersey.
Bob met Doris(Roffino) while in the Coast Guard when he wrote to her at the bequest of a mutual family friend. They were married on May 28, 1959 at St. Paul’s Church, Prospect Park and honeymooned in Florida. Bob and Doris enjoyed bowling, casinos, and traveling to Alaska and Italy. They celebrated 67 years of marriage bliss and lived in Elmwood Park, Paterson, Fair Lawn, North Haledon, and Wayne.
Bob was a family man with limitless patience as the father of six children: Karen Savage(Paul), Donna Netluch (Daniel, M.D.), Warren Ververs (Hilary), Kenneth Ververs(Patricia, PhD), Pamela Nugent (Daniel), and Christine Nolan (Thomas); proud grandfather of eighteen grandchildren: Katelyn Savage (fiancé Nikolaus Schultz), Bryan Savage, M.D., Lauren Savage (Brian Bazan, USMC), Matthew Netluch (Samantha),Alex Netluch, Zachary Netluch, Hannah Ververs, Michael Ververs, Daniel Ververs, Jacob Ververs, Ryan Ververs, Brendan Ververs, Timothy Nugent (Alyssa), Nicholas Nugent, Jenna Nugent, Emily Nolan, Madelyn Nolan and Luke Nolan; and an adored great-grandfather of Wesley Schultz, Brooks Netluch, and soon-to-be baby girl Bazan. He was a god father to Lorraine Rocco Reynolds, Elizabeth Mooney Convery, and Jeffrey Bromley as well as an uncle to twelve nieces and nephews.
Fishing, cooking, watching game shows, playing cards, doing puzzles, and being with family were Bob’s favorite pastimes. He enjoyed family vacations to Shawnee-on-Delaware, Pennsylvania, Nags Head, North Carolina, New Smyrna Beach, Florida and wherever his children were. He attended numerous sporting events, musical concerts, award ceremonies, baptisms, communions, confirmations, etc. Even when Parkinson’s disease steadily invaded his body, his fighting spirit and uncomplaining attitude was an example for all. Bob was a kind, fun, happy, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be sorely missed.
Memorial donations to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson Foundation in Bob’s memory would be greatly appreciated.
