Shirley J. Sisco (nee Mosier) passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 17, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Shirley was born in her family home in Bloomingdale, NJ, to Peter and Irma Mosier, and was one of ten children. She was raised in Bloomingdale and attended Butler High School, graduating with the Class of 1950.
In 1951, shortly after graduating from high school, Shirley was introduced to a young man named Joseph Sisco. The two were set up on a blind date and went to the movies together. What began as a simple evening out soon blossomed into a beautiful love story that would span nearly seven decades. On November 2, 1952, shortly before Joe departed for his service in the United States Army, Shirley and Joe were married at Bloomingdale United Methodist Church. Together, they settled in Pompton Lakes, NJ, the town they would proudly call home throughout their lives together. They shared sixty-nine wonderful years together until Joe's passing in 2021.
Shirley devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family, becoming a full-time homemaker after her marriage and embracing that role throughout her life. She and Joe were blessed with two children, Joseph and Patrice, who brought them immeasurable joy. Her family was always the center of her world, and she found her greatest happiness in caring for those she loved and creating a warm, welcoming home.
Shirley took great pride in her home and enjoyed keeping everything immaculate and perfectly organized. Her family often joked that living with her was like living in a museum. She enjoyed taking ceramic classes with friends, crocheting, and gardening, particularly tending to her flowers. Her front and back yards were always beautifully maintained, reflecting the same quiet dedication and love she brought to every aspect of her life.
Although Shirley was a quiet and somewhat shy woman, her love for her family spoke volumes. She treasured time spent together, especially during visits to the Lancaster area of Pennsylvania and later family vacations to Hilton Head, SC. She also enjoyed several memorable cruises with her loved ones, creating special moments that her family will carry with them always.
Life brought Shirley profound sorrow in 2004 with the heartbreaking loss of her beloved son, Joseph. Through life's joys and sorrows, her family remained her greatest source of love and strength. The loss of her husband, Joe, in 2021, marked the end of a remarkable partnership, but the love they shared and the memories they created together would remain with her always.
Faith was also a part of Shirley's life. In her younger years, she was a member of Bloomingdale United Methodist Church and later briefly attended Pompton Reformed Church in Pompton Lakes. where she continued her connection to the community.
Shirley will be remembered as a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a cherished grandmother. She did not need grand gestures or many words to make an impression. Instead, she touched the lives of those around her through her kindness, and her devotion.
Shirley is survived by her daughter Patrice Ackershoek and her husband Edward of Butler, NJ, her four sisters; Jean Sanders of Pequannock, NJ, Lorraine Ryerson of Butler, NJ, Priscilla Mazzucco of Butler, NJ, and Linda Bolton of Bloomingdale, NJ, four grandchildren; Brittany Ackershoek and her fiancé Jeff of Bloomingdale, NJ, Matthew Ackershoek of Butler, NJ, Kevin Sisco and his wife Christine of Pequannock, NJ, and Jessica Sisco of Riverdale, NJ. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Sisco in 2021, her son Joseph Sisco in 2004, and by her siblings; Marilyn Barry, Judy Rabitski, Sheila Bailey, Donald Mosier, and Paul Mosier.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley’s name may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital
